Ms Anita's Class - Toddler 1

Last month in T1 we focused on identifying shapes. The children enjoyed all the books that we read looking at different shapes. One of those books was Ship Shapes. They liked being able to look for the shapes in the book. In the classroom we would put different items into categories by shapes and color. They really enjoyed hunting for the different items. We used a lot of different things to paint with that correlated with different shapes. One of their favorites was rolling the ball back and forth on the table; they learned that a ball was also the shape of a circle.

This month we will be focusing on self-awareness. We will be dancing to “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”, encouraging the child to name the different body parts as we point to them. During our large group time, we will be learning our body parts in English and in Spanish. We will be using a variety of music to get our bodies moving and to encourage the child to follow simple directions the song gives. We will also be discussing the differences each of us have such as hair color, eye color, etc.

We encourage you to sing songs that engage your child in recognizing their body parts through play and receptive language. You could also talk to your child about their unique traits.

As always, if you have any question, feel free to email me at astevens@delawarechild.org.

Sincerely,

Miss Anita and Miss Jordan
