Ms Debra's Class - Toddler 2

Greetings to all our families!

In July we spent time building creative skills. We had pretend phone calls and pretend meals, and we painted with brushes, cookie cutters, and even forks and spatulas. I checked out Not a Box and Not a Stick books from the library, and the kids enjoyed seeing the different things the book characters were pretending the objects were. They also enjoyed the book I’m a Frog where Piggie pretends to be a frog and explains what pretending is to her friend Gerald the elephant. I made stick puppets for “5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed” and “5 Little Monkeys Teasing Mr. Alligator”, and the kids laughed as the monkeys were dropped or hidden behind the alligator as we sang the songs.

August is upon us, and soon the older kids will be going to school. We will be experiencing changes as some of our friends and siblings go to big kid school and others transition to new classrooms. Sometimes these transitions can be hard on families and the kids in our care as routines change and we see different faces in rooms. We will work hard to make this time as easy on the kids as possible, talking with them and asking them questions about the changes and where the older kids/siblings are.

We will be working on building language skills as we use ELG COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND EARLY LITERACY (LANGUAGE ARTS) which includes the area of Receptive (Listening), Expressive (Speaking/Vocabulary), We will read lots of books inside and out, make marks with markers, color with chalk outside, and paint with water outside. We will point out the kids' names on their cubby's cups and pictures so they can build print awareness and begin to recognize their own name. We will even say the letters of their names as we talk with them about it.

Ms. Debra and Ms. Angie
