Ms Regan's Class - Toddler 2

This month in T2, we have been focusing on Letter and Number recognition. We have been doing this with having foam letters and numbers in the sensory table. We have had a lot of number books that we have been reading. We also have had numbers and letters scattered around the room so that the children can go find the one that the teacher is holding up. The children are getting really good at recognizing who is who when we do the pictures with the names on them during circle time. We have been counting lots of things. We count cars that go by the center, and we count all our friends. We also have play money, and the children will line it up and count how many they have. We have been working on letter sounds, especially the ones that are in each of the children’s names.

This next month we will still be focusing on Literacy and Language Skills along with Number recognition. We are going to continue these skills as they are having fun with them and are learning so much. We will encourage the children to use their words as much as they can. During free choice time, we will make sure that we are helping the children communicate so that they don’t get discouraged if someone doesn’t understand what they are trying to tell their friends or teachers. We will be singing the ABC song, and we will be learning how to recognize the letters in our names along with our friends’ names. Being able to recognize letters will help the children get ready to move on to the bigger classes. We will be encouraging the children to use their words more than gestures. We will do this by getting down on their level and encouraging them to say the things they are wanting as they are gesturing to us. We will be counting our friends daily that are in the class, and we will also count the ones that are absent that day. We will work on getting the children to be able to hold the number of fingers up to the same number that we have counted to.

I would like to encourage you to work on these skills at home as well, and as always, I would like to encourage you all to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. You can reach me at rstevens@delawarechild.org. I am always here for you and your child/children.

Also, I would like to encourage you all to stay safe and well. With the weather changing, I would like to ask that you make sure that your child has the appropriate clothing in their cubbies. We ask that each child has 3 extra changes of clothing.
